It is almost time to batten down the hatches in Kennewick, as it seems pirates may invade the city.
The 7th Annual Mid-Columbia Pirate Festival has been scheduled. In addition to simply having fun, the event is a fundraiser for two charities – My Friend’s Place and the Humane Society.
My Friend’s Place is a shelter that provides school supplies, clothes, help with homework, laundry, showers, and dinners to anyone up to the age of 21 who is experiencing homelessness. The Humane Society is a nationwide organization dedicated to ending animal suffering. It was established in 1954.
Festival attendees can visit the merchants’ room to find loot, join in a pub crawl, enjoy the antics of Captain Squirrel the Pirate Magician, or enjoy a painting class hosted by FireFlight Studios. They can also look forward to firing pistols loaded with black powder.
Festival organizers are working to bring two special guests, prop maker Dragon Dronet, and actor Isaac Charles Singleton, Jr., who appeared in “Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl” and other films, onto the line-up.
There is no monetary fee to attend the festival. Instead, attendees are asked to donate to the charities with pet supplies, cleaning supplies, a cash amount of their choosing, or food.
The Pirate Festival is scheduled from October 7 to October 9 at the Clover Island Inn. When events like these are scheduled, organizers can help attendees by using flyer printing to create schedules and lists of vendors.
