Marathon planned for Kennewick

Runners who enjoy a challenge will have a race in Kennewick to look forward to.

Registration is now open for the Run the River Marathon and Relay, which leads through all three of the Tri-Cities (Kennewick, Pasco, and Richland).

The event is a road marathon, so it follows roads and paved paths the entire way, and leads through three beautiful parks as well as giving runners views of the Columbia River and the nearby mountains.

The weather, which is usually cool in April, as well as the flat route, means that this can be a fast-paced race that is accessible to runners at all levels, as well as being open to walkers.

Those who want to enjoy a day out but would prefer not to run a full marathon have the option to run a four-person relay with friends. Also new this year is the availability of a 5K and a half-marathon. These races will begin after the relay and the full marathon. All four races follow the same route.

Run the River will take place on Saturday, April 20 with the first races beginning at 8.00am. Those who anticipate needing extra time may start at 7.00am.

Prizes include finisher awards, SWAG Bags, and a discount for Marathon Maniacs. Aid stations will be set up every two miles. Organizers who plan events like this often work with banner printing companies to create course markers. The run will start from Columbia Park in Kennewick.
