Major event ahead in Kennewick
The “Best Week of the Summer” is coming to Kennewick.
The Benton Franklin Fair & Rodeo is coming up, marking the 74th year the event will be celebrated. The fair was begun in 1948 by a group known as the Benton Franklin Fair Association. They were building on an earlier event, the Grape Festival, which had been held in Kennewick on an on-and-off basis since 1911, until the Great Depression. However, the Fair Association recognized the significance of the event, and brought it back in 1948, with the purpose of highlighting the importance of agriculture to the city and the region. The Fair is still held with the same purpose in mind.
The event has grown steadily throughout its history. The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association ranked the event in Kennewick as #23 in the country and the sale of stock is Washington State’s largest. The week is packed with events, rides, live entertainment, and food. Highlights include a grand parade, a demolition derby, “Mutton Bustin’,” and “Horse Heaven.” Artists scheduled include STARSHIP featuring Mickey Thomas, Luis Angel (“El Flaco), and Pat Benetar & Neil Giraldo.
The week runs from August 20 through 27, with the rodeo scheduled for August 23 to27, at the Benton County Fairgrounds in Kennewick. Colorful posters are a great way for organizers to advertise events like this, which they can create using poster printing.
