An upcoming event in Kennewick will provide valuable information to potato growers in the region.
The Washington & Oregon Potato Conference will bring potato farmers from across the region together in a meeting and trade show where they can talk to peers, and hear from industry experts.
The three-day conference will provide a lot of information, and the schedule is full. Among the events are a class in CPR and first aid, which will be given in both English and in Spanish the following day; a session on agricultural tech at the cutting edge; a workshop on cultivar performance; a flavor chip challenge; and a hosted potato bar. A trade show will run all day for each day of the conference, and general sessions are also planned.
The general sessions will cover a wide range of subjects, most of them specialized and technical. For instance, Kam Quarles from the National Potato Council will discuss “Federal and International Trade Update for the Potato”; there will be a “Washington State Potato Commission Update” from the commission’s executive director, Chris Voigt; and “Contributions of Plant Pathology to the Potato Industry,” presented by Gary Secor a professor at North Dakota State University.
The conference runs January 28, 29, and 30, at three different venues: the Toyota Center and the Three Rivers Convention Center, both in Kennewick; and outdoors. When events like this are planned organizers will often use flyer printing to create a handout with a schedule of events for attendees.
