Kennewick ready to talk trash

Talking Trash: Finding the Value in Plastic Waste Through Chemical Upcycling will be presented virtually in June, in continuation of the seminar series hosted by Pacific Northwest National Laboratory’s Community Science and Technology.

Kennewick residents and surrounding northwestern communities are invited to attend the online session, which will explore the versatility of plastics that are used every day throughout our lives. Plastic is convenient but discovering what happens when the material’s life comes to an end can be fascinating, according to the presenters. With the chemical components making up plastic, the materials are some of the strongest used today. Presenters note that this creates desirable aspects in the use of plastic, but the impact on the environment can be catastrophic.

As most plastics have long ended up in the trash, landfills, and other areas of the environment, experts have now found ways to transform the waste into recycled and useful products. Creating and maintaining a sustainable future is a focus of the educational session.

Graphic design is often used in virtual presentations to create a professional appearance. Local printing services have graphic design artists on staff to assist.

The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory’s series was designed with the intention of helping to educate the public in creating understanding of how scientific efforts can transform our environment across the world.

The webinar will take place June 8 at 5:00 pm. Registration will provide the Zoom link access.
