What's Happening in Kennewick, WA…

Getting outdoors in Kennewick

An upcoming event in Kennewick will get people outdoors to enjoy warmer weather.

The upcoming Run the River event is the third time the race will be held. It starts in Kennewick at Columbia Park, and leads through Kennewick, Pasco, and Richland, which together are known as the Tri-Cities.

There are different options for the race: 5K, half-marathon, four-person marathon relay, and a full marathon. A free marathon for children is also planned. The course is over paved roadways and paths and is almost flat for the entire distance. Runners will be able to enjoy views of the river, landscaped parks, and the surrounding mountains. The weather will be cool, enabling runners who are hoping for a quick finish to achieve this goal. In addition, the flat course and nice weather will make the event nice for those who decide to walk the course.

The USA Track & Field (USATF) is certifying the course of the Marathon, which means runners will be able to use their results as a qualifier for the Boston Marathon. Both the 5K and the half-marathon are also certified.

The race is available to participants of all skill levels and abilities, and will feature a finisher’s village, free photos of the race, themed aid stations, and custom race medals.

Run the River is scheduled for April 19. When they plan events like this, organizers will often work with banner printing to create signage to mark out the course.
