Celebrated choral group to appear in Kennewick

A group that has toured the world and won several prestigious contests will appear in Kennewick in May.

The Brigham Young University (BYU) Singers perform in many genres, and also sing original works that have been arranged or written especially for them. The Singers comprise 40 students, both graduate and undergrads, who are pursuing degrees in many fields besides music. They have appeared in some of the world’s most famous venues, including the Sydney Opera House, the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and Carnegie Hall.

They have appeared on PBS four times, and sung by invitation at national and regional conferences for the National Association for Music Education, the National Collegiate Choral Organization, and the American Choral Directors Association. The group’s current conductor is Dr. Andrew Crane.

Roald Staheli started the group in 1984, and since their founding, they have been touring extensively. Often invited to take part in competitions on behalf of the United States, they have competed in The Tolosa International Choral Contest in Spain, the International Youth Choir Festival “Aegis Carminis” in Slovenia, and the International Stasys Simkus Choir Competition in Lithuania. Nations they have been to are as far and wide as Vietnam, Indonesia, China, Ireland, Ghana, Australia, Egypt, the UK, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Russia, the Baltic States, and Spain.

The BYU Singers will be at the Art Fuller Auditorium at Kennewick High School on Wednesday, May 3. Organizers of events like this might consider using brochure printing to create concert programs.
