Basketball icons coming to Kennewick
One of the most recognizable teams in basketball is coming to Kennewick.
The Harlem Globetrotters are world-famous for their hysterically funny basketball games, but also for their skills. The team was created in 1926 on the South Side of Chicago in, which was home to all the original players. The team started out as the “Savoy Big Five,” because they played exhibition games at the Savoy Ballroom before the dances.
Several players left the team in 1928, forming another squad they called the “Globe Trotters,” a name which attracted the attention of Abe Saperstein. He became the team’s promoter and manager, and changed the name again, to the “New York Harlem Globetrotters”.
At first, the Globetrotters were a serious, and outstanding, basketball team, but comedy began to creep in when Reece "Goose" Tatum joined in 1941. Today, the Globetrotters are regarded more as entertainment than a serious sports team. Today, the team’s roster features a variety of different ethnicities, as well as several women. A review says:
The Globetrotters will be at the Toyota Center in Kennewick on January 21. Organizers of events like this can promote them by using poster printing to create suitable advertising.

“ . . . if you can get to a show, I do recommend! . . . it’s fun for the whole family – whether you normally watch basketball or not.”
