Acclaimed ventriloquist coming to Kennewick

An artist who has almost single-handedly revived the art of ventriloquism is coming to Kennewick.

Jeff Dunham has enjoyed nearly one billion views of videos on his YouTube channel, as people enjoy watching the antics of Bubba J, Peanut, Walter, Achmed, and more. Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Dunham became interested in ventriloquism when he was eight, when he received a Mortimer Snerd dummy as a gift from his parents. Mortimer Snerd was one of the dummies used by Edgar Bergan, a renowned ventriloquist who became a hero to Dunham.

By the time he was in the fourth grade, Dunham knew he wanted to be a ventriloquist, and began teaching himself Bergen’s routines by practicing in the mirror. He struggled for years, and despite appearances on “The Tonight Show” and winning the title “Funniest Male Standup” in 1998 at the American Comedy Awards, it was not until the 2000s that he began to succeed. His breakthrough came when he appeared on “The Best Damn Sports Show Period,” where he used his puppets to make jokes about the co-hosts. Since then, he has risen to become one of the most popular and highest-paid comedians in the world. A review says:
“. . . going to a Jeff Dunham show is a perfect way to listen to some outstanding comedy.”

Jeff Dunham (and his various characters) will be at the Toyota Center in Kennewick on February 10 at 3.00pm. Organizers of events like this will often use poster printing to create advertising that attracts audiences to a high-profile show.
