Dark Star Orchestra (DSO) is a tribute to the Grateful Dead, and has been performing for more than 25 years, during which time they’ve given 3,100 performances at least. Their shows feature work from the extensive catalog the Dead established during their career, and sometimes the band uses set lists from actual Dead performances. Combining a deep dive into the catalog, set lists, and their own sets means DSO’s shows are always fresh, and bring something special to long-time fans of the original outfit, as well as introducing this music to “newbies.”
DSO has appeared in venues throughout the Unted States including Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheater, and have toured internationally. They have also enjoyed great success at festivals such as Bonnaroo, Jam Cruise, and more. They also host an annual festival of their own, “Dark Star Jubilee,” which they headline. They have also welcomed musical guests, including six of the original Dead: Tom Constanten, Vince Welnick, Donna Jean Godchaux-MacKay, Bill Kreutzmann, Bob Weir, and Phil Lesh.
A review says:
“From the outset, the band was very focused, leaving little time for crowd interaction . . . They came to take care of business, and business was good.”
Dark Star Orchestra will be at the Mount Baker Theatre in Bellingham on February 8. Appearances like this are often well attended when organizers use poster printing to promote them.
