An upcoming concert brings classically trained musicians who also enjoy jazz together for a concert in Bellingham.
Mads Tolling and the Matt Eakle Band will perform at the Mt. Baker Theatre soon. Tolling is a composer and violinist who was born and raised in Copenhagen, Denmark, and was six when he began playing the violin. He was classically trained, attended Sankt Anae High School, and moved to the United States when he was offered a sizeable scholarship to Boston’s Berklee College of Music. In 2003, he graduated Summa cum Laude.
Soon after graduation, he became a member of Stanley Clarke’s band, as well as the noted Turtle Island Quartet. He won two Grammys, in 2006 and 2008, as a member of this quartet, and in 2016, he won the DownBeat Critics Poll Rising Star Violin Award. He has performed with stars such as Ramsey Lewis and Chick Corea.
Matt Eakle is a flutist who began blowing audiences away in 1989 as the flutist for the David Grisman Quintet. He has made 14 albums with the group, and has worked with stars such as Enrique Coria, and Jerry Garcia. He has released solo projects including “Flute Jazz” (1998), “The Headwaters Project” in 2002, and “Hardly Work” (2009). At this concert, he will appear with the Matt Eakle Band, a sextet.
The concert by these master musicians is scheduled for August 22. Using poster printing to create advertisements allows organizers to support events like this.
