Illuminating event planned in Bellingham

An upcoming event in Bellingham will showcase the magic of light, by turning the lights off.

Bellingham Illuminations - Art in a New Light will take place at the Whatcom Art Center and is free of charge. The event is an immersive experience featuring both two- and three-dimensional art joined by the themes of light and phosphorescence. Exhibits will include phosphorescent, fluorescent, glow-in-the-dark, and LED-lit artworks, hoping to create a magical and unique experience to visitors.

An opening reception will kick off the event and give visitors a chance to chat with the artists. They will also find blacklight flashlights available they can use to reveal hidden aspects of the phosphorescent works.

In addition, a luminary station is planned where both children and adults can make their own luminaries, which they will be able to take with them, complete with a flameless, flickering votive, supplied to them for free. Events such as this can benefit when organizers work with poster printing to create striking advertising to announce them.

Art in a New Light opens November 1, and will be open to the public through November 9, from 11.00 am until 6.00 pm each day. The center is located at 1105 11th Street in Bellingham. Volunteers from the Whatcom Art Guild will manage the event, and all pieces will be available for purchase, with 25% of the profits going to support the Art Guild’s WWU Scholarship fund.
