Music lovers in Bellingham have a reason to celebrate, as a series of concerts is on the way.
The Bellingham Festival Organization recently announced its schedule for the Bellingham Festival of Music, which celebrates the 250th birthday of the nation. The concerts feature a wide variety of musical pieces, from symphonies to vocal and instrumental soloists backed by the orchestra.
One performance will feature violinist Tessa Lark playing the “Violin Concerto in D Major” by Clarice Assad, a contemporary Brazilian composer, as well as “Earth 2.0” by Jake Heggie, with countertenor Key’Mon Murrah. Heggie is a contemporary composer known for his operas “Moby Dick” and “Dead Man Walking,” both of which have been staged at the Metropolitan Opera. “Earth 2.0” is a new work that had its premiere in 2024, also with Murrah.
Another concert in the series features quintessentially American works, Copland’s “Fanfare for the Common Man,” and “Rhapsody in Blue” by George Gershwin, with Andrew von Oeyen at the piano. When they plan events like this, organizers can work with brochure printing companies to create programs for the concerts, describing the works and their composers.
The conductor for the performances is Marcelo Lehninger, the orchestra’s Artistic Director. He has appeared as guest conductor with such orchestras as the Boston Symphony, the Chicago Symphony, the Seattle Symphony, and the Buffalo Philharmonic.
The Assad/Heggie performance is Friday, July 10, while Copland/Gershwin’s works are set for Thursday, July 16.
