What's Happening in Bellingham, WA…

Bellingham schedules Bluegrass weekend

An upcoming weekend in Bellingham celebrates bluegrass music.

Bluegrass is a uniquely American musical genre that developed in the Appalachian region in the 1940s. It is almost always played on acoustic instruments only, and soared back into the mainstream when it was the soundtrack for the 2000 film “O Brother, Where Art Thou?”

The upcoming weekend includes performances, a workshop in various musical instruments, craft and food vendors, and a beer and cider garden. The bands are Full Cord, the Burnett Sisters Band, the North Cascades Bluegrass Band, Roosevelt Road, the Paper Bluegrass Revival, Jackson Hollow, and Fog Holler.

Full Cord won the Telluride Bluegrass Band Competition in 2022 and is on the way up, receiving the “Momentum Award Ban of the Year” award from the International Bluegrass Music Association.

The Burnett Sisters Band plays a wide range of genres including bluegrass, folk and swing, while Roosevelt Road collectively have decades of experience playing Gospel, Americana, and real Bluegrass.

The Paper Bluegrass Revival puts a new twist on traditional Bluegrass, playing original music and sometimes covering rock songs. Jackson Hollow is from British Columbia and has a classic sound that reaches across generations and borders. Fog Holler brings the “high lonesome sound” to audiences in the U.S. and throughout Europe and the UK.

The festival is scheduled for August 30 and 31 at the Deming Log Show Showgrounds in Bellingham. Events like this can benefit when organizers use flyer printing to create handouts for fans, including a schedule.
