Bellingham to enjoy the classics

A noted symphony orchestra is making a stop in Bellingham next month.

The St. Olaf Orchestra is St. Olaf College’s touring symphony orchestra and travels domestically on an annual basis. It has also appeared in China, Eastern and Central Europe, Scandinavia, and South America. The orchestra has performed throughout Europe, working with some of the finest artists and conductors in the world. It often appears on National Public Radio.

The orchestra has 95 members and was established in 1906. In 2013 and 2019, it won American Prizes in Orchestral Performances among universities and colleges.

The program for the concert includes Joseph “Symphony No. 1 in G Major,” by Joseph Bologne, the Chevalier de Saint-Georges, which will feature solos by members of the orchestra. Also on the program is the poignant Symphony No. 6, the “Pathétique,” by Tchaikovsky. Organizers of events like this can use brochure printing to create programs that describe the selections.

In his first season as its conductor, Chung Park will lead the orchestra, which will appear October 16 at Bellingham’s Western Washington Performing Arts Center. There is no charge for the event, and everyone is encouraged to attend. However, to make sure everyone is safe, organizers are asking anyone who is not feeling well at the time of the event to stay at home. Although masks are not required, they are strongly encouraged.
