Recreational Equipment Inc. (REI) has revealed that it will move its headquarters from Kent to Bellevue.
Founded in 1938, the privately owned company has made it a mission to support the needs of outdoor enthusiasts by providing sporting goods and outdoor gear. The company has about 150 retail and office locations and employs approximately 12,000 people.
The move to Bellevue is due to the company growing in size, and as a result, it has outgrown the Kent corporate location occupied since 1988. The move to Bellevue will take place around 2020. Although that may seem a long time from now, it would be an opportunity for REI to begin working on a Direct Mail printing campaign to let the community know of its upcoming arrival and promote the various retail locations in the area.
This announcement is another step in the development of The Spring District, which is a mixed-use facility east of downtown. The plans are to use this new location to help employees use their creativity to create new ideas and visions for outdoor activities.
REI’s potential arrival into The Spring District fits well with the vision well with the vision of the owners of the site, who wanted to create a sustainable space that aligns with the ability to easily walk, bike, or obtain transit for all who reside or work in the area.
