Bellevue police partner to increase traffic safety

The Eastside Safe Streets Task Force has been launched by law enforcement agencies representing Kirkland, Redmond, Issaquah, and Bellevue. This is a partnership in the region whose goal is to reduce the number of street racing and modified exhaust incidents and increase in reckless driving.

Resources will be combined by the patrol officers from the four agencies to patrol those neighborhoods where street racing events are encouraged and reckless driving incidents tend to take place. Members of the community are encouraged to participate in this endeavor and report such incidents if they witness such events. Tickets will be issued by law enforcement to those who are driving with a modified muffler, which increases the noise of the vehicle, or who are speeding.

Flyers, mailers, and other printed materials can be created by local Print shops to help spread the word about such new initiatives. Such materials can easily be distributed throughout a region.

Bellevue police chief, Wendell Shirley, said that incidents of street racing and irresponsible driving occur in all jurisdictions and cities. He added that this new task force is a partnership that will combine resources, address the growing concerns in the region, and hold people accountable for their driving actions.

Before this task force was launched the Bellevue Police Department had the Safer Roads Initiative, which had its own emphasis on traffic safety.
