Bellevue will be hosting Welcoming Week throughout this month.
This is an annual celebration what is held around the country that brings together people of all backgrounds, both current and new residents in a neighborhood.
Lynne Robinson, mayor of Bellevue, said that Welcoming Week reminds everyone that the city is diverse and is commitment to inclusion. She expressed pride that Bellevue can create spaces where people can build connections across cultures and tell their stories.
Among the events planned for Welcoming Week will a free community performance of “Island of Hope” by Living Voices. This will feature stories of immigration through Ellis Island. This will be on Saturday September 6. There will be a live performance by Ian Dobson playing the steel drums on Wednesday September 10. That same day there will also be a morning of movement and music as local dance groups from Redmond and Kirkland and solo vocal performances celebrate the artistry of the Chinese Community.
Cultural Conversations will be relaunched at the Bellevue Botanical Garden with “The Bellevue We Hope to See: A Storytelling Event” that will feature stories from residents who have had impact on their communities. This will be on Monday September 15. Participants from Cross-Cultural Center Without Walls will host an interactive event highlighting how cross-cultural collaboration builds resilience on Saturday September 20.
Such special events can be promoted throughout a city and its neighborhoods with poster printing.
