The Historic F. W. Winters house closed recently due to the construction of the East Link light rail line. The property will remain closed for about four years.
The house is owned by the city, and the occupying Eastside Heritage Center will relocate to another building during the construction project. The house is also rented out for various occasions, such as small weddings and business events. The building, which is likely the subject of Promotional Products or local businesses logo designs, is the only historical landmark in Bellevue.
Due to the home being a historical landmark, those involved in the project will be sure to maintain the integrity of the building’s structure by conducting frequent inspections and keeping an eye on ground movements by installing monitoring devices. Geotechnical engineers will be brought in as well for on-site evaluations.
Also being affected by the construction is the neighboring Mercer Slough Blueberry Farm. The current parking lot will close and a temporary lot will open near the South Bellevue Park and Ride. It will be dedicated to those wanting access to the Mercer Slough Nature Park. Locals can still have access to the blueberries and other fresh produce at the Larsen Lake Blueberry Farm and the Southeast 16th Street Farm Fresh Produce Stand nearby.
According to Sound Transit, construction of the East Link is scheduled to begin in early 2017.
