New chief heads Bellevue fire department

The city of Bellevue will be welcoming a new fire chief later this month.

The new chief will be Jerome “Jay” Hagen who will be replacing Mark Risen, the former fire chief who left the department in September. Deputy Chief Todd Dickerboom served as interim fire chief.

Hagen started his career as a firefighter with the fire department in Missoula, Montana, and has had a career in the fire service for about 33 years. In 1988, he joined the fire department in Seattle and eventually became an assistant chief.

Brad Miyake, City Manager, commented that Hagen has been fighting fires in the local area for the past 20 years, which enables him to understand both the challenges and opportunities of emergency and fire services, as well as recognize the many accomplishments of the Bellevue Fire Department. Miyake added that he is great fit for the city given his passion for fire safety, passion for the community, and commitment to mentoring new firefighters, along with the great deal of experience he has in all areas of the fire service, credentials, and leadership capabilities.

Hagen’s children attended school in Bellevue and he now lives in Newcastle.

Business card printing could be used in situations such as this one when someone is hired for a new position. Hagen will be taking over the position on Monday May 14.
