Museum in Bellevue receives donation for renovations

The Norcliffe Foundation has made a charitable donation of $500,000 to the Bellevue Arts Museum (BAM) that it will use to update and modernize many of their outdated and older systems.

The museum currently has a backlog of maintenance projects that go back close to 20 years. The money will also be used purchase new furnishings and Signs. Local Print shops are often hired for such projects in helping to improve the attractiveness of a business.

Chief Curator and Executive Director of the BAM, Benedict Heywood, expressed his gratitude to the Norcliffe Foundation for their support of the museum. He that these funds will enable the museum to showcase the pieces created by the artists that work and live in the community. Haywood added that this support will also make possible the purchase of equipment that is needed to offer noteworthy and thought-provoking exhibits in the future.

The BAM grew from an art fair, the first one of which was held in 1947 by a group of volunteers. The museum became a permanent establishment in 1975 and later in 2001 it moved to a building de designed by renowned architect Steven Holl from the state of Washington.

Steven Holl will also be hosting a conversation about his current exhibit at the museum entitled “Making Architecture” on Thursday August 20 from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m.
