The city of Bellevue has closed the intersection of Northeast First Street and 102nd Avenue Northeast for several weeks to construct a pedestrian crossing.
The crossing will be at the south entrance of Downtown Park, and the park is scheduled to re-open at the end of June. Upgrades to the park will include a circular promenade and a new ‘Inspiration Playground’, which will be made accessible for everyone.
The park will also have a circular canal and tree-lined promenade. Water features and more landscaping will create a grand entrance for those visiting the park as well. By printing Flyers, park officials could keep residents notified of improvements and the timeline for reopening.
Construction at the intersection will entail removing pavement, repaving, and reconstruction of sidewalk ramps. The work will take place weekdays from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm and on Saturdays from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Residents will still be able to enter parking garages and will not have any interruption in deliveries, mail service, or trash pickup. There will be disruption of street parking in the area of 100th Avenue Northeast to 103rd Avenue Northeast. Signage will indicate the closed areas.
The closing began on March 27 and will continue through mid-April. Detours are signposted for those needing to travel in the area. The park is expected to be completed this summer and city park officials indicate the goal is to be open in time for 4th of July events.
