Co-op grocery store to open in Bellevue

A location of PCC Community Markets will be opening just outside downtown Bellevue. PCC Community Markets is an upscale grocery co-op chain based in Seattle.

This store will be 25,000 square feet in size and will be located in the Bellevue South development. A small format-style Target is also planned for this development.

The Bellevue Whole Foods will be very close to the PCC Community Markets. The two stores are similar in that many of the same food are offered at the same price, but the latter is a co-op so that shares in the store can be purchased by shoppers which enables them to offer their opinions on the running of the store.

Cate Hardy, CEO of PCC Community Markets, commented that the region has a rich history in the food history, when, during the 1800s, there were berry farms, vegetable patches, and orchards that supplied fresh produce for Seattle. Bellevue is special to the store and these same local producers will be able to provide for the co-op in both a figurative and literal sense.

The store is expected to open in 2020 and will have close to 100 employees.
