Bellevue to create new aquatics center

Airfield Park will become the site for a new regional aquatic center in Bellevue.

The new center will serve the needs for health and wellness, recreation, and fitness, and will offer competitive aquatics programs for all ranges of background, ability, and age.

Such new facilities often turn to flyer printing to inform the community of their planned features and future developments.

The Bellevue City Council will now work to get funding for the project and to engage the community in its development. The project will entail creating a Memorandum of Understanding with SPLASHForward, a non-profit advocacy group, focused on the feasibility of funding the project and developing the plan, which was created by the group and the city. Community engagement and an environmental review will also be carried out.

The city will also work with backers and investors to investigate sources of financing to fund the project, and will develop partnerships both public and private to help operate the facility.

Bellevue College and Airfield Park were the two finalists among four potential sites for the aquatics center. Airfield Park got the nod because it was determined that it would require less investment for facilities in the site, with other advantages being that it has easy access to the freeway, is owned by the city, and already has agreements for parking with adjacent properties.
