The Washington Native Plant Society, recognizing the difficulty of Eastside residents fighting traffic to attend their meetings in Seattle’s University District, chose Bellevue as an Eastside branch site.
The Central Puget Sound chapter of the Washington Native Plant Society was established in 1976 and has over 900 members making it the organization’s largest chapter. Those living on Lake Washington’s east side have been included in the Central Puget Sound chapter which necessitated what for many was an arduous trip to Seattle.
It was around two years ago that organization of the Eastside branch was begun by Franja Bryant, who is the Central Puget Sound board of directors' education chair, and a Bellevue resident. Until recently, meetings sites for the Eastside branch (Bellevue) were rotated among several libraries.
However, the group has now found a permanent and appropriate home at the Bellevue Botanical Garden’s Aaron Education Center. The group and the Botanical Garden struck up a symbiotic relationship; in exchange for using its facility the members will provide their volunteer services in the garden
The Native Plant Society, a nonprofit organization, has spent 35 years touting the value of Washington’s native plants. A fundraising activity for an organization such as this one could be creating and selling a Washington State native plant catalog. Printing companies could also create Postcards and Holiday Cards featuring native plants for the group to sell.Get a Free Quote for Holiday Cards Get a Free Quote for Postcards
