What's Happening in Bellevue, WA…

Bellevue completes portion of greenway trail

A new section of a trail that runs from Seattle to Issaquah along Interstate 90 is now opened in Bellevue.

A part of the Mountains to Sound Greenway Trail in Factoria is about a mile long and 12 feet wide and is between Interstate 405 and 132nd Avenue Southeast. It includes a new bridge over Factoria Boulevard and a new pedestrian-bicycle tunnel under the ramps of the freeway. Those interested in such trails may benefit from maps and other printed materials created by local print shops outlining their routes and features.

Lynne Robinson, mayor of Bellevue, said that this stretch of the trail is first step in completing the Mountains to Sound Greenway Trail that runs in Bellevue. Robinson added that anyone who uses it will find their travels much safer, and it will be a milestone in the efforts to create a connected and comprehensive bicycle-pedestrian network in the city that can be used for both recreation and commuting. City officials said the work will enable more vehicles on the exit ramp, which will reduce backups and will increase safety for everyone.

The next section of the trail will run between 142nd Place Southeast and 132nd Avenue Southeast and is already under construction. The Mountains to Sound Greenway Trail is designed to offer a safe pathway to non-motorized commuting and recreation throughout the area.
