Bellevue College names new interim president

Former governor of Washington, Gary Locke, will become the interim president of Bellevue College later this month.

Important announcements like this one are often made known throughout the college and surrounding community through banner printing.

Locke expressed his honor and excitement about becoming president of the college at this time. He said the college is known for its outstanding students and faculty, innovation, and many programs and courses that meet the needs of its diverse student body. He is looking forward to working with the campus community to move the college forwar, building on and expanding its current regional and national reputation.

His political career included serving as the United States Secretary of Commerce during the Obama administration, and he was the United States Ambassador to China. During his two terms as governor of Washington, the state was among one of the four best managed states in the country. Locke was the first Chinese-American to be elected governor.

Locke is also a leader in many other fields, including education, human rights, healthcare, and immigration reform. Many authors and organizations around the country have recognized him for his customer focus, innovations in government efficiency, and successful budget management of high-risk initiatives. Locke has a passion for education policy and considers himself to be a nontraditional college president.

Locke will assume his new role on Monday, June 15.
