Bellevue city hall hosts special exhibit

An exhibit titled “Elevating Voices” is being presented by the city of Bellevue in celebration of Black History Month.

The exhibit, created in partnership with MG2, an architecture firm in Seattle, and Onyx Fine Arts Collective, will feature the work of 17 Black artists from the Pacific Northwest. Local Print shops can help spread the word about such exhibits with Posters, Flyers, and other printed materials.

Jay Taylor, an associate at MG2, is curating the exhibit, which includes photographs, paintings, textiles, fashion, and sculptures. Taylor says that this exhibit empowers and elevates the lived experiences and voices of the Black artists in the Pacific Northwest who have been underrepresented in the art scene and public spaces.

The chief diversity, equity, and inclusion officer of the city, Dr. Linda Whitehead, said that this is the first time that the city has hosted a public art display in which only Black artists are featured. Whitehead added the general public is invited to come to the exhibit and engage in conversations about social and racial justice, which this exhibit specifically highlights.

The exhibit will be open to the public throughout the month of February and is on the City Hall Concourse. The hours for the exhibit will be during business hours from 8:00am to 4:00pm from Monday through Friday, and in the evenings when City Hall is open for other events or public meetings.
