Autism Acceptance Tournament sure to achieve high score

Bellevue College is once again holding its Autism Acceptance Video Game Tournament later this month. This will be the third year in which the event will raise money for the college's Autism Spectrum Navigators program.

In addition to raising funds, the event also raises awareness and acceptance of autism spectrum disorders. Autism Day WA is co-hosting this year's tournament.

Players of all ages can compete at Nintendo Wii Mario Kart for $10; the gaming equipment is provided by the event organizers. Several other attractions are free of charge, including educational seminars for parents and other interested adults. Attendees will have access to board game tables, a quiet room and an Xbox Kinect Kids' Play Room. A silent auction will be available with, among other items, a ‘Knitting’ basket that includes knitting classes, a Stratocaster guitar, and a ‘Salmon’ basket with an Anthony's Restaurants' $100 gift card.

The Autism Spectrum Navigators program was created in 2011 at Bellevue College in an effort to assist autistic students successfully navigate their college career via accessing campus services. The program includes a network of support, such as weekly meetings with trained peer mentors.

Brochure printers play an important role in educating the public about such conditions as autism. Keeping the subject in front of the public by holding events like this one is also vital.
