A new business had opened in Springfield, helping to revitalize the downtown area.
Mark Harrington, a local entrepreneur, recently purchased an empty shop in Springfield’s downtown to open his second Remix Market location. Harrington prefers to repurpose items instead of letting them go into landfills, a belief that caused him to open the first Remix Market. The stores focus on reusing home goods, clothing, and second-hand furniture.
Harrington has a second business, Junk Luggers, which works with the Remix Markets. Items dropped off at Junk Luggers are brought to Remix to be offered at reduced prices. Harrington says this system gives both the building housing them, and the used goods, a second life. In addition, he wants the Remix stores to be welcoming spaces that encourage community members to stop by, and more importantly, think about the importance of reusing, repurposing, and recycling items.
Harrington’s first Remix store opened in 2020 in Warrenton and relocated to Gainesville in 2026. The new store will be housed in a two-story, 6,250-square-foot building. Ample parking is available, which will encourage people to stop in, and the enterprise should create about 10 jobs.
The new shop will donate part of its proceeds to support the Sweet Julia Grace Foundation, an organization that provides support to children with complex medical needs, as well as their families.
When new businesses such as this open their doors, the owner can use flyer printing to create an informative handout for local distribution.
