A band that has over a half-million fans listening to them every month is coming to Springfield.
The Ultimate Los Kjarkas Experience will be live at the St. James soon. The band is known for chart-topping hits like “Fria,” “Vivir Junto a Ti,” and “Imillitay.”
Los Kjarkas is from the Capinota Province, which lies in the Department of Cochabamba in Bolivia. They play Andean folk music, in styles including carnavales, huayno, tuntuna, and Saya, and are one of the country’s most popular bands. They play instruments including the bombo, guitar, ronroco, zampoña, quena, and charango.
The band formed in 1965, established by Gonzalo Hermosa González and his brothers Ulises Hermosa González and Élmer Hermosa González, along with Ramiro de la Zerda and Gaston Guardia Bilboa. Gonzalo has always been the leader of the group, as well as a guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter.
The group has established two schools that teach Andean folk music, La Fundación Kjarkas in Ecuador, and the Musical School of Kjarkas located in Lima, Peru. Their touring schedule has taken the band to Australia, South America, the United States, Scandinavia, Europe, and Japan, and have composed more than 350 songs. Their music was used in “Bolivia,” an Argentine Dutch film released in 2001, and they have been awarded the Bolivian Government Banner of Gold.
Los Kjarkas will be at the St. James in Springfield on Saturday, June 21, at 7:00 pm. Events like this are often enhanced when organizers use poster printing services to create advertising.
