Festival of HBCU colleges planned in Springfield

Once again, the Alfred Street Baptist Church (ASBC) is hosting a festival for students attending HBCU colleges.

Since 2003, this unique college fair has connected academic institutions with over 60,000 students. Philanthropy News Digest mentioned that in 2022, ASBC supported Jackson State University with a gift amounting to $1 million. That gift brings the total that ASBC has awarded to HBCUs (the acronym stands for historically Black colleges and universities) during the last 20 years to over $42 million. It supports HBCUs across the country, and gives support in the form of direct donations, scholarships, contributions, and/or waived students’ fees.

Students should plan to attend for several reasons. First, it is possible for them to apply for a college at the festival and receive an immediate answer regarding admission. Several scholarships will be awarded, and HBCU seminars are planned. Representatives from various colleges will be there to answer questions as well.

The festival is scheduled for November 8 and 9. The event on November 8 is virtual, from 4.00 pm until 8.00 pm, and the one on November 9 is both virtual and in-person, and runs from 9.00 am until 4.00 pm. The venue is the St. James Sports and Active Entertainment Center at 6805 Industrial Road in Springfield. When they plan events such as this, organizers may want to work with a printer who will use flyer printing to create a handout for attendees, perhaps listing the schools that are present at the event.
