City of Dunedin Pipe Band will host a workshop and present Highland Roads in concert in early February.
The workshop will be geared to drummers and pipers. Students may check in at the Sheraton Inn & Suites in Old Town Alexandria starting at 8:30 am.
Session One will run from 9:15 am to 10:30 am. Alasdair Martin will present techniques for warming up hands for pipers, Ben Elkins will talk about snare fundamentals and techniques, Adam Quinn will examine pipe music composition and writing harmony, and Eric MacNeill will discuss the musical role of tenor and bass sections.
From 10:45 am to noon, Session Two will include Ryan Myett and Will Dillahey discussing improving and practicing efficiently, Haley Mesick and Mike Dear talking about improving DPB Tone, Tim Marchand and Mike Shopper reflecting on Drum Corps education, and Christina Hand discussing modern mid-section rudiments.
Topics in Session Three (1:00 pm until 2:15 pm) will cover MSR fundamentals, pipe band success elements, and tenor drumming.
The final session from 2:30 pm to 3:45 pm will have piobaireachd (Scottish Highland music), judging criteria, and how to incorporate visuals and flourishes into successful scores.
Concert tickets are $24.50. Registration for the workshop will be $75 and T-Shirts sporting the event graphic design will cost $20.
The concert will be Saturday, February 5 from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm at the Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center, 4915 East Campus Drive.
