Alexandria celebrates nation's 250 anniversary

Alexandria will be celebrating our nation's 250th anniversary with historic happy hour, a concert, and a tour coming in June.

On June 11th from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm the Wharf, 119 King Street, will have Historic Happy Hour discussions about the research going on now in Historic Alexandria. Some of the profits from the evening's Checks will go to America 250 and Historic Alexandria events. Attendance will be free.

Alexandria's Sister Cities' Concert for America250 will be a music performance Music of the American Revolution. David and Ginger Hildebrand will, costumed for the period, perform and discuss music associated with our sister cities namely France, Caan, Scotland, Dundee, Helsingborg, Gyumri and Sweden. Scottish and French music will be especially prominent as they were so instrumental in our Revolutionary cause.

Music of the American Revolution will be Thursday, June 18th from 7:00 pm to 9:0 p at the Lyceum, 201 S Washington Street.

Friday, June 26th from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm, Gadsby's Tavern Museum, 134 N Royal Street will have a conversational tour, American250-Who We Remember. Using the history of the museum, docents will offer a reflection on those historic figures we remember and why.

Tickets will be $15 and $12 for Historic Alexandria members.

With the large interest in the United States 250th anniversary, Print shops are turning out patriotic merchandise featuring iconic images such as the eagle and liberty bell decked out in red, white and blue.
