George Washington’s adopted hometown, Alexandria, will be commemorating his birthday with activities throughout the month of February.
Some of these events will be a banquet and ball, symposium, a parade, and a birthday gala.
The Birthnight Banquet and Ball will be Saturday, February 19 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Zoom. The gala will begin with a video presentation explaining the event’s history with stories from those who have been part of it over the years. This will be followed with a question-and-answer session run by “General Washington” himself. English country dancing will then commence. A Birthnight Ball Cake can be purchased at Bittersweet, and dinner can be picked up at Gadsby’s Tavern Restaurant.
“The Political Education of George Washington, 1758-1774” will be the topic of the George Washington Symposium at 1:00 pm, February 26 at the George Washington Masonic National Memorial.
That evening the George Washington Birthday Gala will begin with a reception at 5:00 pm, a program at 6:30 pm in the Memorial Theater and the banquet starting at 7:30 pm in the Grand Masonic Hall.
Parade Day will be February 21, beginning with the Friendship Veterans Fire Engine Association Breakfast from 9:00 am to 10:30 am. The parade will march through Old Town from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
Marching units in parades such as this often get special banner printing done in order to have Banners with colors especially associated with the event.
