The 20th annual First Night Alexandria celebration is taking place in Old Town Alexandria, allowing people to see in the New Year in style.
The event is dedicated to the performing and visual arts. Various stores, museums, and hotels in the downtown area will be offering entertainment from local and regional performers. There are set to be activities sponsored by the Art League, family art projects, story time, and an old-fashioned carnival. Music will be provided by such acts as Mr. Don, Musikanten and the Vaughan Ambrose Trio. For the kids, there will be face painting, a moon bounce, musicians, and clowns. The evening will end off with fireworks at midnight.
Prior to First Night, there are other activities planned for earlier in the day. The Torpedo Factory Art Center is holding a scavenger hunt beginning in the afternoon. Alexandria Archaeology will also be holding the Potters' Art Family program, at which visitors will learn all about salt-glazed pottery and design their own pot on paper to take home with them.
Alexandria Print companies may be providing the buttons that people must purchase to attend most of the events.
First Night Alexandria will take place on December 31 from 7:00 pm to midnight. Badges are $15 each and free for children 12 and under. Both the scavenger hunt and the Potters' Art Family program begin at 2:00 pm. Call 703-746-3301 to learn more.Get a Free Quote for Print
