Two grants have been awarded to Tyler Junior College (TJC) that are focused on workforce safety and training.
News of such awards is often disseminated throughout a college campus and the community with flyer printing.
The first grant is from the Texas Higher Educating Coordinating Board through its Texas Reskilling and Upskilling through Education (TRUE) Grant Program in the amount of $280,000.
The program supports the expansion, creation, or redesign of training credential and workforce education programs related to occupations in high demand.
Programs supported by TRUE funds must be less than six months, aligned with industry, in fields of high demand and high value, and developed with input from important workforce stakeholders.
Texas Mutual Insurance Company has also awarded the college a grant of $98,000 to fund the TJC Safety Institute. This offers courses free of charge that are focused on safety for employees, employers, and the public, as well as ones on workforce development.
The Institute is at TJC West. Its goals are to create robust opportunities for mid-level career roles that are in heavy demand, to reskill and upskill adults focusing on convenience for them, and to train current and future skilled workforce in practices to maintain a safe workplace, particularly in occupations where accidents in the workplace are common, and in industries with high risk.
