Scholarship established and awarded by college in Tyler

Imanol Rojas, a student at Tyler Junior College (TJC) and an aspiring engineer, is the first recipient of a new scholarship celebrating the legacies and lives of Wilma Martin Sexton and James L. Sexton. This scholarship will be awarded every year to a student who embodies determination, resilience, and a strong commitment to their future.

The James I. Perkins Family Foundation and Citizens 1st Bank have made possible the Wilma Martin and James L. Sexton Annual Promise Scholarship. The Foundation has been supporting TJC for many years and played an important role in creating the Rusk TJC Citizens Promise Program, the first Promise Program in Texas.

News of such new scholarships and more information about their recipients are often disseminated throughout a college campus and neighboring community with flyer printing.

Rojas expressed his gratitude for receiving this scholarship. He said that this support of a financial nature will help to enable him to reach his goal to become an engineer.

Rojas will begin studying this fall at TJC and will also enroll in classes through the Texas A&M University Engineering Academy of TJC. He is deeply interested in science and math and wants to have a career in engineering. He is determined to use such an opportunity to grow both academically and as a person, to give back to the community.
