Tyler Junior College to build new performing arts center

A groundbreaking ceremony was recently held at Tyler Junior College (TJC) for the Rogers Palmer Performing Arts Center.

In April 2018, the TJC Campaign for the Performing Arts was started to provide private funding of $7.5m for the construction of the center. The Rogers Foundation gifted $3m in January to name the facility. Mike Metke, Chancellor and CEO of TJC, said that this project would not have been possible without the Rogers Foundation, which has previously transformed the nursing and health sciences center.

There will be 14,000 square feet of space added to the existing Wise Auditorium. Included in the additions will be a renovated auditorium with new acoustical treatments, sound system, and seating; a large main lobby with event areas and accessible box office and concessions; a new stage with state-of-the-art technology; and large dance studios, rehearsal space, and green room.

Banner printing can be used around campuses to make the college community aware of such new projects and their significance for the community and the students.

Metke added that this facility is important to the TJC as it has attracted so much talent that has go on to achieve national fame and fortune. Having this expanded center will mean that the college will be able to continue to grow the arts programs at the college, recruit more extraordinary talent, and develop a flourishing arts culture in East Texas.
