The Criminal Justice Students Association of Tyler Junior College recently traveled to Washington, D.C. to experience firsthand some of the institutions and facilities about which they are learning in the classroom, and to have an enjoyable spring break.
There were 40 faculty and students on the trip and they were led by the staff of Justice Clarence Thomas for a tour of the United States Supreme Court, United States Representative Louie Gohmert for a tour of the Capitol Building, and Tom Prat (an alumnus of Tyler Junior College who was a staff member under President George W. Bush) for tours of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building and the White House.
Before they toured the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial that opened last fall, they all took part in a community service project. Banner printing can be used to promote such efforts of students and their contributions to the community.
Jason Waller, Professor and Department Chair of Law and Public Service Careers at Tyler Junior College, commented that this trip helped to fulfill the three main goals of the college, which are to get the students involved in community service, offer an exciting student life experience, and provide a quality education. He said they also enjoyed this once-in-a-lifetime experience and seeing many sites from history that they perhaps had only seen on television or in the movies previously.
