Tyler Junior College student now scholarship semi-finalist

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation has named Griselle Esparza, a sophomore and biology major at Tyler Junior College, one of its semi-finalists for its Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship. Colleges and the surrounding community can be made aware of such distinctions through poster printing products displayed throughout the area.

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation supports academically successful students from community colleges who transfer to the best four-year colleges and universities in the country to complete their bachelor’s degrees. Esparza plans to transfer to a university and major in pre-med once she graduates in May.

Esparza is a member of the Hispanic Student Organization, vice president of the Student Senate, and vice president of scholarships in the Alpha Omicron Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. She was named a Coca-Cola Leader of Promise Scholar for 2018.

Executive director of the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation, Seppy Basili, commented that such motivated students who start their college experience at two-year colleges do well once they enroll in four-year colleges. This year’s semi-finalists are exceptional students—they came from 369 schools in 45 states and the District of Columbia and numbered close to 1,500.

The recipients of the Transfer Scholarship will be announced in April and will receive financial support for up to three years, advising services, and the ability to connect with other Cooke Scholars.
