Tyler Junior College appoints new president

The Board of Trustees of Tyler Junior College recently announced that Dr. Juan Meija will be the next president of the college. Meija previously served as District Provost and President for Branch Locations of the college.

Meija expressed his gracefulness to the Board of Trustees for their vote of confidence in him and their leadership. Tyler Junior College is a high-quality academic institution and the community has been very welcoming and supportive of the college. He added that such engagement from the community will help the college to improve student success and add to the betterment of the region in general.

Meija has been with Tyler Junior College for six years and prior to serving in his current role, he was Chief Academic Officer and Vice President for Academic Affairs at South Texas College. He also serves the community as a member of the Tyler Area Partnership 4 Education, the Tyler Business Education Council, and the Smith County Seat Coalition, and as a member of the boards of the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Community College Baccalaureate Association.

Dr. Mike Metke, Chancellor and CEO of the college, is retiring and Meija will be replacing him as of July 1.
