Tyler college to hold sessions for new students

New Student Orientation (NSO) sessions for students have been announced by Tyler Junior College (TJC) for those students who will be entering in the upcoming fall semester.

Director of Admissions for TJC, Claire Mizell, said that it has been shown that students who attend an orientation have a higher grade point average, are more successful in their first semester, and are more likely to graduate within two years. Mizell added that the NSO sessions enable students entering TJC to be more prepared and more successful in their overall experience at college.

The NSO sessions enable students to become familiar with the main campus of TJC; make connections with new students; meet with advisors and create their schedules for the fall; and network with staff, faculty, and administrators. Sessions like this are an opportunity for local Print shops to create Brochures and other materials students can take away with them once they leave campus.

The cost for an NSO session is $20 per person, which covers meals in the dining hall at TJC and all materials. There is an additional charge of $20 a night for lodging in residence halls at TJC.

Sessions will take place next month on:

• Monday and Tuesday, June 20 and 21
• Wednesday and Thursday, June 23 and 24
• Monday and Tuesday, June 27 and 28

A one-day session will also be held on Thursday, June 30.
