Tyler college features shows in science center

The Earth and Space Science Center at Tyler Junior College will be offering live shows in its planetarium.

Seating is limited and advance ticketing is required. Flyer printing can be used to advertise and promote such special films.

Opening this month, “Extreme Auroras” was created by Ole Salomonsen, an award-winning photographer. Salomonsen travels through northern Norway, Sweden, and Finland to create a film of the aurora borealis, or northern lights. He uses a fish-eye lens so that the entire sky is captured and then projected on the 40-foot dome. Guests will feel as if they are in the Arctic wilderness as they watch this natural phenomenon, which is usually only seen in the far north of the world.

“Asteroid: Mission Extreme!” looks at the potential of asteroids to facilitate manned space travel. Using state-of-the-art computer graphics and the latest visuals, this film develops the idea that asteroids can be used as stations in space, serve as steppingstones to other worlds, and enable us to cross the entire solar system. This show will be opening in January 2021.

Ticket prices are $5.00 for children, students, and senior citizens, and $7.00 for adults. The dome in the planetarium is open from Tuesdays through Saturdays. Private screenings of these films can be reserved at 9:45 am for groups of 25 for a flat fee of $15.00.
