TJC receives major designation from military

Military-Friendly Gold status has been awarded to Tyler Junior College (TJC) for 2024-2025 in the large community college category. It is only one of 21 colleges and universities across the country to have earned this designation.

News of such significant awards is often made known throughout a college and its community with flyer printing.

The award demonstrates that TJC is furthering its mission to provide the military community, as well as veterans and their families, with the chance to fulfill their goal of attending college. The benchmarks exceeded by TJC were in the areas of student support and retention, careers and graduation, financial aid and assistance, commitment and culture, admissions and orientation, and academic policies.

The executive director of Academic Advising, Veterans/Military, and Testing Services at TJC, Chris Fontaine, is himself a United States Navy veteran. He expressed his honor on behalf of the college about partnering with those who have served in the military, as well as his excitement about being able to help the military students and their families at the college to reach their academic and future career goals.

Over 400 enrolled military veterans attend TJC, which also serves their families. They are guided through their college experience by faculty and staff at TJC, some of whom are themselves veterans from across all five branches of the military.
