The Police Department at Tyler Junior College (TJC) has moved to a new facility near the corner of Lake Street and Baxter Avenue, across the street from its former location.
Informing a campus community about such new facilities is often carried out with poster printing.
Earlier this year, TJC acquired a residential building next to its existing annex building on Baxter Avenue and renovated it to become the new station. It has additional space in the lobby as more staff and students are coming in for their parking permits and new IDs for the fall semester.
Michael Seale, Police Chief at TJC, said that the department had been in the previous building for over 20 years. He said that building has now been taken down and will be used for green space and additional parking.
The lobby hours in the station are Monday through Thursday from 7:30 am to 8:00 pm and from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm on Friday. Seale said that for the fall semester the department plans to keep the lobby opened until 10:00 pm but the plans are to eventually have it opened 24 hours a day as more security features are added. He said this will enable anyone to come into the station at any time, pick up the phone in the lobby, and be able to directly contact a dispatcher from TJC.
