Summer camps to come to TJC

Tyler Junior College (TJC) will be offering summer camps covering a range of topics, seeking to fulfill the dreams and desires of the youth in the area.

Director of Summer Camps at TJC, Heath Stoner, said there are both athletic and activity camps for kids from the age of three years old and up. He added that there are excellent opportunities at these camps for kids to learn about other cultures through science, technology, and art, and to gain skills to be successful in sports. He said these are also a chance to spend time in a college campus, where he hopes the campers will want to pursue a college career.

Several locations on the TJC campus participate in these camps, including the Wagstaff Gymnasium, the Earth and Science Space Center, science labs, and the art departments.

The athletic camps include tennis, volleyball, baseball, and soccer, and are run by coaching staff and players at TJC. Areas in which other camps are offered include horsemanship for beginners and intermediates; dance such as jazz, ballet, and hip-hop; art such as watercolor, acrylic painting, and jewelry; and cooking including kitchen etiquette and safety, and cooking from scratch. More details about such camps and the ages for which they are most appropriate can be outlined in flyer printing.

Camps are by the age groups of 3 to 7, 8 to 10, and 11 to 14 and run from Monday, June 6 to Friday, August 5.
