Summer camps for children to be offered in Tyler

Summer camps for children three years of age and older are being offered by Tyler Junior College (TJC). Registration is now open for these camps.

The camps will take place at several locations on the central campus of TJC including the Wagstaff Gymnasium, the Earth and Space Science Center, science labs, and the art department.

Among the areas of the 40 activity camps are dance lessons such as hip-hop, jazz, and ballet; cooking, which includes kitchen safety, etiquette, and cooking from scratch; horsemanship; pickleball; and science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) activities, offering computer programming and lessons in the creation of video games.

The athletic camps are run entirely by the players and coaching staff at TJC and will include basketball, baseball, soccer, football, tennis, and volleyball.

More details about such camps, when they are offered, and pricing can be provided with brochure printing.

The dean of the School of Skilled Trades and Continuing Studies at TJC, Brent Wallace, said that TJC camps offer opportunities for children to learn about other cultures through science, art, and technology, and gain skills in sports. He added that they are often the only chance the child has to spend time at a college campus, and hopes that they will be inspired to pursue a career.

Camp sessions typically run for three hours in the morning or afternoon. Camps begin this month and run through the end of August.
