Students awarded scholarships to college in Tyler

The seniors from Rusk High School who are eligible to join the freshman class of 2024 at Tyler Junior College (TJC) have been announced.

Announcements of such accomplishments are often made known throughout a school district and community with poster printing.

The Rusk Promise, which is a partnership of the TJC Foundation, TJC, Citizens 1st Bank, Rusk Independent School District (ISD), and The Perkins Family Foundation pays up to $4,000 a year for students to attend TJC for two years. Those who qualify for this program need to have a minimum GPA of 2.5, be in the top half of their class, live in the Rusk ISD, and have attended Rusk High School for grades 11 and 12.

There are 58 students in this year’s program. TJC vice president for institutional advancement, Mitch Andrews, congratulated the students on their accomplishment. He said that their achievements during their high school years will ensure that the Rusk Promise program will be of great benefit to them. He added that this program also provides dedicated staff who can help students through their experience at TJC.

Margaret Perkins, representing Citizens 1st Bank and The Peking Family Foundation, said that a new Promise Transfer Scholarship is now available that will enable students to continue their education at the University of Texas at Tyler, helping them focus on their studies without the need to take out loans or supplement their income with jobs.
