Special program in Tyler gets reaccredited

The Respiratory Care Program of Tyler Junior College (TJC) is set to continue this fall, as it has been indorsed by The Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC).

Such announcements can be made known to the campus community with flyer printing.

Thomas R. Smalling, Chief Executive Officer of CoARC, has informed the director of the program, Michael White, that the program has met or exceeded each of the required outcome measures that make for a successful program. Smalling commented to White that this is an accomplishment of which the institution and everyone involved in the program should be proud. He added that it is apparent that everyone in the program is committed to constantly improving the education of its students, as shown by their participation in the accreditation process.

The respiratory care program at TJC enables its students to perform advanced lifesaving procedures for those who have lung, circulation, and heart disorders and injuries. The program includes one semester of coursework required for the program and four semesters of laboratory, lecture, and clinical classes. Upon graduation, students receive an associate of applied science degree and are eligible to take an examination to be certified by the Texas Medical Board.

Respiratory therapists can start working immediately upon graduation, and can expect to earn an average annual salary of just over $49,000.
